Neurology
A neurologist is a
physician who deals with the nervous system. The nervous system affects
all ages from infants through adults, and Riverside Medical Clinic has
neurology specialists with diverse education and training to ensure our
patients are well taken care of.
Dr. Michael Saito is an
established pediatric physician who also specializes in
Pediatric Neurology and can see patients up to the age of 35.
Both Dr. Ronald Bailey and
Dr. Bertram Froehly Jr. specialize in Adult Neurology, with Dr. Bailey
specializing in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.
Patients may not
always understand why they should see a neurologist for something a
patient may think is a minor problem. Your primary doctor or specialist
may want a confirmation of their diagnosis, which can only be obtained
through specialized testing.
Our Neurology
department is equipped to handle most types of neurological problems.
Our neurologists conduct tests such as electrophysiological testing.
This is a two-part test consisting of an electromyogram (EMG) and
electroneurogram or nerve conduction study. The EMG will record the
electrical activity inside the muscle and the nerve study records how
fast your nerves are able to conduct an impulse of energy. During the
nerve study, electrodes are taped to your skin over the body part that
is going to be tested. Stimulating electrodes are placed on your skin
while low intensity electrical current is applied through the skin to
the nerves and their response is recorded on the machine. Unlike other
tests, patients can eat and take their medication before having this
test done.
