Tips for sun safety:

Avoid overexposure to the sun between 10am and 4pm.

Wear a hat and protective clothing if you're going to be exposed to prolonged sunlight.

Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (or SPF) of at least 15 or higher.

Because UV rays can travel even through clouds, follow these guidelines even on overcast days.

Living in sunny Southern California is no easy manner; patients are exposed to a somewhat harsh environment on a day-to-day basis. One of the problems from our environment is exposure to the sun's rays. Riverside Medical Clinic's Dermatology department has experience dealing with many types of skin problems from rashes to skin cancer. Dr. Shira Young has been with Riverside Medical Clinic for over twelve years. Dr. Bita Bagheri has been in practice since 2002.  Dermatology is located on our main campus on Brockton Avenue.

In the event your primary care physician is unable to treat your condition, he or she will refer you to the Dermatology department. Once an approval has been received, you will be scheduled for an appointment with the dermatologist.

In general, on a patient's first visit, the dermatologist will obtain the patient's history, conduct an examination, and determine the necessity for preliminary testing. An example of a question you might be prepared to answer is: has there been a change in a product used at home? Patients with reoccurring rashes may find that, to avoid sensitivity to a certain product used at home, they have switched products, but often the same ingredient may be used in the new product as in the previous one.
